Madeline is 5!

I am still in shock that Madeline (and she is preferring Madeline to Madi these days) is 5. She is such an amazing helper, a sweetie, a snuggler, and a tyrant. Madeline wants all things done her way, loves rules, and does not appreciate how messy her sister is. She is so much of me in a little tiny person, that Matt and I are regularly terrified of what is coming in our future. Madi loves to learn, sing, and play, She loves games and is still not that into watching a whole movie. On Saturdays, Madi wakes up asking about our plans for the weekend. She has begun with the very painful statement "I don't love you mom" when she is mad at me, but most days she recites her list of family members and friends that she does have love for.
Madeline is learning to read, loves to write by herself, colors, dances, sings, has actually begun to enjoy swimming, and still plays with dolls constantly. Madeline is 43 1/4 inches tall (63rd percentile) and 39.6 pounds (46th percentile). She cried when she got her TB test (who doesn't?) and I was stupidly proud that she as able to pee in a cup at the doctor's office, haha.
For Madeline's birthday she wanted a pajama party. Matt bought a bounce house for entertainment, we decorated in tons of pink and purple, and of course has cupcakes! Madi invited friends from school, home, and the neighborhood. Fun was had by all and I may throw brunch parties for the rest of my children's lives!
Dinner out with the neighbor friends!

Flower Fields

For years, Renee and I have been saying that we should go to the Carlsbad Flower Fields. I especially wanted to go while the girls are young and will enjoy all of the colors without being "bored." We made it out in mid-April, luckily getting to the flower fields not long after opening while it was still calm. By the time we left, there were people in wedding dresses, families everywhere, and busloads of tourists being dropped off - scary!
After the flowers, we had a yummy breakfast at Ruby's  Madeline's go to eating place in Carlsbad. Even better, we followed up lunch with some shoe shopping!! Both girls got new converse and wore them home of course. Gorgeous pictures from Auntie Nee below:

After we got home, the girls and I helped Matt pack up for a camping trip in the Gross' backyard. So much fun to have all the kiddos together! The kids who could make it watched Frozen on the wall in the yard, we roasted marshmallows, and slept in tents all night. So much fun! What a great way to kick off the season of fun and long daylight hours!!
